| For security applications such as car immobilizers an RFID transponder, built into the key, signals the immobilizer control unit that the key is genuine. If the car is hotwired, or an unauthorized key is used, it simply will not start. The immobilizer key is not equipped with a battery but the transponder is powered by the immobilizer receiver in the control unit. Melexis develops RFID solutions for 125KHz and 13.56MHz. This technology also allows valuable data (tire pressure, temperature, rotational acceleration and speed) to be transferred from the wheels of an automobile to the ECU (electronic control unit). |
